Privacy Policy
This describes what MotorThink actually does with your data, written from the code rather than from a template. Last updated 21 September 2026.
Who we are
MotorThink is operated from Sri Lanka. For anything in this policy, including requests to see or delete your data, write to infor@motorthink.tech.
What we collect
Because you gave it to us. Your name, email address, and — if you choose to enter them — date of birth, location and a profile picture. If you sign in with Google we receive your name, email address, profile picture and Google account ID from Google.
About your vehicles. Make, model, generation, trim, year, mileage, a nickname if you set one, and your answers to the maintenance questions asked during setup.
Your service history. Records you log, and any receipt images you upload.
What you ask us. Questions you type into a repair guide are stored as a conversation so follow-ups make sense, and fault codes you record are stored against the vehicle.
Technical. A password hash if you set a password (bcrypt — we never store the password itself), and a device push token if you enable notifications.
Who else sees it
We use other companies to run parts of the service. They only receive what that part needs.
- Groq and Google (Gemini) — generate issue cards and repair guides. They receive the vehicle's make, model, generation and engine, and the text of any question you type. Do not type anything into a repair guide that you would not want sent to a third-party AI provider.
- Tavily — web searches for repair information. Receives vehicle and fault descriptions, not anything about you.
- Hugging Face, Pollinations and remove.bg — vehicle illustrations. They receive a description of the car, never your data.
- Google — sign-in, if you use it.
- Expo — delivers push notifications, so receives your device token and the notification text.
- Our email provider — receives your email address and the reminder content.
- Render (hosting) and Neon (database) — store the data.
Receipt images are read by optical character recognition running on our own servers. They are not sent to a third-party OCR service.
We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.
Repair guides are shared, your data is not
A repair guide is written once for a car — a generation and engine — and read by everyone with that car. It contains nothing about you. Your conversations, your fault codes and your service history are yours alone and are never published or shown to other users. Guides published on this site are drawn only from the shared content.
Keeping and deleting
We keep your data while your account exists. To get it deleted, email infor@motorthink.tech and we will delete the account and everything attached to it.
Being straight with you: there is no self-service delete button in the app yet. The one in the mobile app's settings does not work and tells you so. Until it is built, email is the way, and we will action it manually.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email infor@motorthink.tech. If you are in a place with data protection law that grants you more than this — Sri Lanka's Personal Data Protection Act, or the GDPR if you are in the EU or UK — those rights apply and we will honour them.
Children
MotorThink is not intended for anyone under 16.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will say so in the app rather than quietly editing this page.
